Aim of the Technician Certificate in Tourism and Tour Guiding

The Technician Certificate in Tourism and Tour Guiding is designed to produce technicians who will provide services in areas including National parks, Game reserves, Conservation areas and unique cultural attractions. A combination of lectures, assignments, and Field Practical Training (FPT) are designed to offer required knowledge, skills and right attitude.

Objectives of the course

Main objective:

Produce Tourism and Tour Guiding technicians with knowledge, skills and right attitude, which will enable them to work in a broad range of operational activities of which some are non-routine.

Specific objectives:

  1. To enable students to acquire knowledge and practical competences in order to work effectively as Tourism and Tour Guides Professionals;
  2. To provide learners with the right attitude to cope with the challenges of their working environment; and
  3. To instill the mind of self-responsibility to learners by facilitating in the learning process and not teaching them.

Entry requirements

  • The following are the minimum entry qualifications for NTA Level 5 as also set by NACTVET:
  1. Holder of Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) with one Principal pass plus one Subsidiary pass in Principal subjects.
    OR
  2. Possession of National Technical Award (NTA Level 4) in related courses such as Tourism OR Travel and Tourism OR Wildlife Management OR Heritage Management OR Hotel Management OR Tour Guiding courses from institutions accredited by National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET).
  • Physical fitness certified by a Government recognized Doctor.

Duration and Fees

The course duration will be one year, 2 semesters, whereby in each semester 15 weeks will be for course work and 2 weeks for semester examinations.
