Training for Village Game Scouts (VGS)

Objective of the Course

To produce Village Game Scouts (VGS) who will ensure sustainable conservation of natural resources (wildlife, forest, beekeeping and fisheries) at Village level.

Specifically, this course will introduce to learners the following competences

  1. Paramilitary code of conduct, use of firearms, and the ability to conduct anti-poaching operations.
  2. Intelligence, investigation and law enforcement skills.
  3. Study of plants and animals and their management.
  4. Community Based Natural Resources Management (CNRM) approaches.
  5. Entrepreneurship, administration and sustainable utilization of natural resources skills.
  6. Skills for administering first aid to different casualties and to promote healthy living.
  7. Vehicle maintenance and field skills.

Target Groups

  1. People who would like to work as Village Game Scouts (VGS) in Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs), Village Forest Reserves (VFR), Beach Management Units (BMU) and other related protected areas.
  2. In-service officials who want to strengthen their competences in natural resources conservation activities.

Entry Qualifications 

Applicants to this course must be:

  • Standard VII leavers and above,
  • Age 18 years and above at the time of enrollment and not more than 45 years,
  • Physical fitness certified by a Government recognized Doctor.

Media of Instructions: The medium of instructions is Kiswahili.

Duration and Fees

The Course lasts for three (3) months.
